Aldine ISD Student Artists to Featured in Contemporary Arts Museum Houston Exhibition

Aldine ISD student artists from Hall Success Academy and Eisenhower High School will have their work featured in The Sequence Is Yours, an exhibition hosted by the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.

The opening reception is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 8, at ARTECHOUSE Houston, 600 W. 6th St. It’s worth noting that the image on the promotional flyer is a photograph from an Eisenhower High School artist.

The exhibition will include artwork created by students under the guidance of Aldine ISD art educators Ketsia Hamilton of Hall Success Academy and Óscar Medina of Eisenhower High School. Hamilton is also a member of the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston’s Teacher Advisory Group.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to see their work recognized in a professional arts space and shared with the greater Houston community,” said Kaileigh Newman, Aldine ISD director of visual arts. “We are proud of the creativity, voice, and vision our student artists continue to bring to the #AldineStory.”

Hall Success Academy Artists Explore Identity, Future, and Imagination

Hall Success Academy students will be represented through a three-piece collection titled The Future Within: Afrofuturist Self-Portraits. The featured artists are:

The collection features large self-portraits that imagine identity beyond the present and into the future. Through Afrofuturism, each artist combines personal storytelling with creative possibilities for what the future can become.

Using textiles, yarn, and found objects, students added texture and meaning to their work. The materials represent growth, protection, and moving forward.

The exhibition reminds viewers that the future is not something students simply inherit — it is something they can imagine, create, and shape.

Together, these self-portraits directly connect to The Sequence Is Yours by illustrating how students actively shape their own futures through their imagination and creative choices, reinforcing the exhibition’s central idea that the future is not already decided.
