Aldine Noon Optimist Club Names 2016 Essay Winners

South Texas Optimist International hosts an Essay Competition every year. Students compete from each chapter. The winners advance to the district competition.

A total of 43 seniors from Aldine ISD submitted essays to the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Aldine Noon Optimist Club. The theme of the essay was “Lead by Example- Reality or Fiction?”

On March 13, the students read their winning essays to members and guests at the Optimist meeting. They also shared their college plans after graduation.

Each of the top three winners received a certificate and scholarship award. Judy Hoya chaired the 2016 contest.

Essay Winners

1st Place —Melissa Pérez @ Aldine HS
2nd Place —Andrés Reyna @ MacArthur HS
3rd Place —Bryant Leal @ MacArthur HS

The first, second and third place winners received $300, $200 and $100 award, respectively.

As the first place winner, Melissa Pérez advances to the South Texas District competition. The winner of the South Texas District will have the opportunity to win a $2,500 scholarship.

Denise Keaton, Clarissa Peralta, and Lisa Cortez attended the awards presentation. Keaton is coordinator for financial aid. Peralta and Cortez are counselors at Aldine High School and MacArthur High School, respectively.
