Dr. LaTonya Goffney delivers keynote address at Acres Home Chamber event

In-coming Aldine ISD Superintendent Dr. LaTonya Goffney delivered the keynote address at the June 7 Acres Home Chamber of Commerce Business Networking Luncheon. Dr. Goffney shared her story of how she went from abject poverty as a child to the leader of one of the largest school districts in the state of Texas. Dr. Goffney credited education with playing a key role in her life, and the many teachers and counselors who assisted and encouraged her along the way. “I’m excited and honored about this opportunity to build on the foundation of success already established by the Board, superintendent (Dr. Wanda Bamberg) and the administration of Aldine ISD,” Dr. Goffney said. “I look forward to looking, listening and learning to discover how best I can serve the students, staff and community of Aldine. As a child of poverty, I know firsthand the power of public education and how it changed the trajectory of my life. My family and I covet your prayers during our transition.” Pictured with Dr. Goffney are Aldine ISD Trustees Paul Shanklin, Dr. Viola M. Garcia and Connie Esparza.
