Crawford and Company, a local insurance agency, adopted Stehlik Intermediate School, for the campus’ annual Global Day of Service campaign. On September 30, employees delivered 27 backpacks with a plethora of supplies for students and teachers. Students who received backpacks met with the volunteers who filled their backpacks with essential school items, such as composition notebooks, pens, pencils, glue sticks, Kleenex, erasers, and more. Teacher supplies were divided into goodie bags that the campus utilized for door prizes at upcoming faculty meetings.
Crawford Insurance also selected Stehlik as the recipient of its National Day of Service Project. Crawford volunteers were on hand in October to assist with school projects, such as shelving books in the library, stocking new textbooks in the book rooms, and installing white boards in more than 20 classrooms.
On November 10, Stehlik hosted its first College and Career Family Night. This event brought awareness to the variety of careers available for our future Aldine graduates. Stehlik staff members led career demonstrations in such fields as forest and conservation, the culinary arts, and archaeology. Business partners also visited with students to share their career experiences.
Más Club, Primerica, and Expo Motorcars were just a few of the partners that were also in attendance. Expo Motorcars illustrated that “education pays” as they parked a bright red Ferrari on the bus ramp. Students visited with the business partner about careers in the automobile industry. Chris Muñiz, founder and chief creative officer of They Creative advertising company, provided a demonstration regarding graphic design, a career that many of our students have expressed an interest in. And Twiana Collier, Aldine ISD financial aid counselor, was also in attendance to answer questions from parents regarding financial aid.
Additionally, families enjoyed a college trivia scavenger hunt where they had to search for clues on the numerous college door displays throughout the campus.
Overall, the event was a success with students and parents gaining valuable information and experience.
