Carver, Eisenhower Theater Students Shined at State Thespian Festival

Theater students from Carver High School and Eisenhower Senior High School earned a number of honors at the state event, held Dec. 1-3 at the Hilton Americas Hotel and George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

Carver High’s theater troupe performed their play, Beyond Therapy, to a crowd of approximately 200 fellow thespians. The following 14 Carver students advanced to nationals, which will be held in Lincoln, NE in June 2012:

• Duet Acting: Amber Jackson and Jensen Smith
• Musical Theater: Precious Rayfield and Fallon Williams
• Group Musical Theater: Alric Davis, Trey Lewis and Andrew Wesley
• Group Acting: Marian Baynard, K’Yuana Nelson, Kayla Sinisterra and Malcolm Thomas
• Solo Pantomime: John Washington
• Duet Pantomime: Isaish Rusk and Nyles Washington

Additionally, Rusk, Kristopher Adams and Andrew Wesley performed collectively as cast members in the All State Show. And fellow thespian Maci Bass, a senior, auditioned for a number of colleges earlier this year and has received six callbacks.

Washington was also elected to the Student State Board of Texas Thespians and will serve as a Chapter Thespian Officer for the state of Texas. He will serve on the State Board during the 2012-2013 school year. Fellow Carver student Jeremiah Gray currently serves on the State Board.

The following Eisenhower High students also qualified for nationals in the Category Group Acting: Marcus Livingston, Kiara Citizen-Williams, Jermaine Stallworth, Brooke Harris and Wendy Gonzales. In order for students to advance to nationals, they each had to receive two Superior rankings at the state event.

While the following Ike students didn’t advance to nationals, they did earn a Superior ranking:

• Monologue Acting: MoBryana Weary, Arneshia Mallett, and Marcus Livingston
• Solo Musical Theater: Kystal Harris

Furthermore, Livingston, a senior, has received eight callbacks from universities across the country where he auditioned.
