Lone Star College, Hall Center Develop Math Tutorial Program

On September 15, Lone Star College and Hall Center for Education kicked off the Math Cohort Mentor / Tutorial Program. The goal of the program is to assist students aspiring to attend college become better prepared take their college entrance exams. Students meet once a week with volunteers from Lone Star College-Greenspoint Center’s Department of Recruitment, Outreach and Diversity Initiatives. College groups helping the high school students include Phi Theta Kappa International Two-Year College Honor Society and the AfterMath Organization. Also working closely with the program are Michael Roberts, math chair at Hall, and Dr. Stephen W. Washington, math professor at Lone Star College, who worked together to develop the initiative.

Hall students can take advantage of the opportunity to receive free tutoring and mentoring in a variety of areas such as:

• TAKS Practice
• SAT / ACT / COMPASS Prep
• Homework Assistance
• ASVAB Math Prep (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)
• Subject Specific

Other Hall staff members involved in the endeavor are math instructors Caroline Charles and Lynette Avina as well as Earnestine Pierce, parent facilitator.
