NCEA Higher Performing Schools Recognizes AISD

The National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA), a department of ACT, Inc., recognized Aldine ISD for having 20 schools in the district earn Gold Performance Acknowledgements and make the 2011 NCEA Higher Performing Schools List.

Of these campuses, four received Awards for Academic Excellence* for achievement in all areas measured. The following schools received the honor and Higher Performing recognition in the following areas:

Aldine Middle School — Math and Social Studies
Aldine Ninth Grade — All: Math and Reading*
Anderson Academy — All: Math and Reading*
Calvert Elementary School — Reading
Carver High School — Math
Escamilla Intermediate School — All: Math, Reading and Science*
Houston Academy — Math
Johnson Elementary School — Reading
MacArthur High School — Social Studies
MacArthur Ninth Grade School — All: Math and Reading*
Oleson Elementary School — Math
Orange Grove Elementary School — Reading
Plummer Middle School — Math and Social Studies
Raymond Academy — Math
Sammons Elementary School — Math and Reading
Stehlik Intermediate School — Math
Stephens Elementary School — Math and Reading
Thompson Elementary School — Math and Reading
Victory Early College High School — Math and Reading

The Higher Performing Schools (formerly known as Just for the Kids Schools) are identified by two measures: consistent improvement in student achievement from previous years (growth) and/or absolute student achievement using the school’s Commended Performance results on the spring 2009-2011 TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) test. NCEA’s higher-performing methodology controls for school and student demographics to allow for an apples-to-apples comparison of school achievement and to demonstrate that with the commitment of educators, all schools can have success no matter the zip code. NCEA provided award certificates to each Higher Performing School and the district.
