Carver High Drama Troupe Receives Tommy Tune Award Nominations

Carver High School’s drama troupe recently received two Tommy Tune Award nominations for their production of Little Shop of Horrors.

The troupe received a nomination in the Best Ensemble/Chorus category and the Best Choreography category.

Additionally, Carver students Denzel Taylor and Jeremiah Gray have been selected to perform in the closing number of the awards ceremony.

The Tommy Tune Awards will be held on Tuesday, April 17 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m.

Carver High’s production team consisted of director Roshunda Jones, technical director Jabari Collins, musical director Daryle Freeman, production assistant Tamara Fleming, choreographers Chadwick Peters and Sarita Salinas and student choreographer Denzel Taylor. Students from Houston Academy also participated as part of the ensemble.

Theater Under the Stars’ (TUTS) Tommy Tune Awards are designed not only to acknowledge remarkable musical theater talent at the high school level, but also to encourage future development. TUTS will present eight scholarships during the awards ceremony.
