Art Students Earn Honors at State VASE Competition

A number of Aldine ISD art students returned from the State VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) competition held in Bryan ISD with a number of honors and recognitions. To compete at the state competition, students had to advance from the regional level.

Christian Adame and Shandey Ketchey of Nimitz Senior High School both earned Gold Seal Medallions, which is the highest honor in the VASE program. The two Nimitz students were rated as having produced the top 150 artworks in the State of Texas.

Nine AISD students — Bruno Ramírez of Carver High School and Adame, Ketchey, Jasilyn Anderson, Fernando Barahona, Yanely Cisneros (two individual Superior Medallions), César Valle-Ruano and Jorge Velásquez of Nimitz Senior High School — received Superior Rating Medallions at state.

Six AISD students — Elizabeth Rodríguez of Aldine Senior High School, Yosely Sánchez, Jessica de la Hoz, and Phoung Anh Nguyen of Eisenhower Senior High School, Armando Ramírez of MacArthur Senior High School and John Beaty of Nimitz Senior High School — earned a score of 3 (excellent) at state.

And three AISD students — Travion Payne of Carver High School, Adán Peña of Eisenhower Senior High School and Cindy Montante of MacArthur Senior High School — earned a score of 2 (fair) at state.

The Texas Art Education Association has sponsored VASE since 1994.
