Mattress Mac Addresses New Teachers

Jim “Mattress Mac” McIngvale, owner of Gallery Furniture, addressed more than 400 new Aldine ISD teachers during the New Teacher Induction Academy’s luncheon held Aug. 13 at Nimitz High School. McIngvale commended the new educators for choosing teaching as their profession of choice. He stated that teachers are “bright spots” for the crucial role they will play in society in preparing students for the future.

The new teachers spent three days (Aug. 13 – 15) working with mentors as well as participating in the New Teacher Induction Academy’s workshops and seminars as they prepared for the upcoming school year, which begins on Monday, Aug. 27.

During the three-day event, Superintendent Dr. Wanda Bamberg welcomed the new teachers to Aldine, along with members of the Aldine Board of Education. Jill Charrier and Karen Barnes, the district’s 2011-2012 Elementary/Intermediate Teacher of the Year and Secondary Teacher of the Year, also addressed the group. On the last day of the Academy, the new teachers enjoyed a breakfast held in their honor to welcome them to the district at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center.  The Aldine Dance Company provided the entertainment at the breakfast.
