MacArthur Takes Top Honors at District 18-5A Cross Country Meet

The MacArthur High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams both finished first at the District 18-5A meet, held Thursday, Oct. 25 at Lone Star College-North Harris.

Both teams will advance to the Region 3 Meet, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3 in Atascocita. If either team finishes first or second at the regional meet, they will advance to the state meet, slated for Nov. 10 in Round Rock.

Both teams are under the direction of head coach Kelly Silha and assistant coach Xang Chareunsab.

“I’m just so proud of both groups,” Silha said. “They’ve worked hard all year and their commitment to the program paid off today. We’re looking forward to the regional meet. This is a tough region, but we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

The boys’ team consists of Juan Fraga, Jorge Acosta, Julio Reyes, Michael Bautista, Óscar García, Osvaldo Hernández and Arturo Puente.

The girls’ team consists of Destiny Garza, Miriam Hernández, Laura Delgado, Yamilex Jaramillo, Diana Avilés, Nina Moreno and Ellisenda Rodríguez.

MacArthur’s junior varsity and freshman boys’ teams also placed first at district in their respective divisions.
