Varsity Girls’ Soccer Tournament Set

Aldine ISD will host its annual Varsity Girl’s Soccer Tournament, Jan. 10-12.

Group 1 will consist of Nimitz High, Chavez High, Davis High and MacArthur High, while Group 2 will consist of Aldine High, Spring High, Porter High and Eisenhower High.

Group play will begin on Thursday, Jan. 10 at Thorne Stadium (all games will be played at Thorne Stadium due to the saturation of the grass field at Aldine Middle School from the recent rains the Houston area experienced). Nimitz will face Davis at 3 p.m., followed by Aldine versus Spring at 4:30 p.m., MacArthur versus Chavez at 6 p.m. and Eisenhower versus Porter at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, Jan. 11, at Thorne Stadium, MacArthur will face Nimitz at 3 p.m., followed by Eisenhower versus Aldine at 4:30 p.m., Davis versus Chavez at 6 p.m. and Porter versus Spring at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 12, group play will conclude at Thorne Stadium with Nimitz taking on Chavez at 9 a.m., followed by MacArthur versus Davis at 10:30 a.m., Eisenhower versus Spring at noon and Aldine versus Porter at 1:30 p.m.

After group play is completed, teams will be ranked based on the following criteria:

• 6 points for a win
• 3 points for a tie
• 0 points for a loss
• 1 point for each goal scored (maximum three goals)
• 1 point for a shutout

The top two teams from each group will advance to square off in the afternoon on Jan. 12 in the championship game and the third-place game.

The third place game will be played at 3 p.m. at Thorne Stadium, followed by the championship game at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $2 per game.
