Mark your calendars now to attend an encore performance of the smash hit musical “The Color Purple” on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 5 p.m. at Carver High School.
According to Roshunda Jones, theater director at Carver High School, the Jan. 19 performance sold out.
“We received wonderful feedback from the community,” said Jones. “Due to popular demand, we decided to give an encore performance.”
“The Color Purple” is an inspiring family saga that tells the unforgettable story of a woman who, through love, finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her unique voice in the world.
The musical is based on Alice Walker’s 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel (Steven Spielberg adapted the novel for the 1985 film.). The story is centered on Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 40 years forms the arc of this epic story. With a joyous score featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music and blues, “The Color Purple” is a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love and a celebration of life.
Tickets to the encore performance are $8.
