Nimitz Wins Aldine Boys’ Soccer Tournament

The Nimitz Cougars took first-place honors in the Aldine Boys’ Varsity Soccer Tournament held Jan. 18-19.

The Cougars, under the direction of head coach Salvador Fernández, defeated MacArthur High 1-0 in the championship game.

Nimitz advanced to the title game by first winning the Group A Division. The Cougars opened the tournament with a 4-0 win over Cy-Fair, followed by a 2-1 loss to Aldine High. Nimitz then defeated Houston Lee to finish atop the Group A Division.

MacArthur, under the direction of head coach Justo Manrique, advanced to the title game by finishing first in the Group B Division. The Generals opened the tournament with a 2-0 win over Hastings, followed by a 2-1 loss to Eisenhower. MacArthur earned the top spot in Group B with a 3-1 win over Cy-Fair.

Aldine High, under the direction of head coach Neal Perry, finished third in the tournament. They opened the tournament with a 3-1 loss to Houston Lee, followed by a 2-1 win over Nimitz and then a 2-1 victory over Cy-Fair to advance to the third-place game. In that game, Aldine defeated Hastings, 2-1.
