Aldine Middle Chess Team Performs Well at TCA Regional Tournament

The chess team competed at the Texas Chess Association’s Regional Tournament held Feb. 16 at Westbrook Intermediate School. The event included participants from 25 counties. The Aldine Middle School Chess Club won second place in the advanced division and third place in the beginner’s division. At the TCA Regional Tournament eight of 13 students earned a trophy or a medal.

Before the TCA Regional Tournament, the Aldine Middle School chess team traveled to Austin to compete in the Patsy Sommer Tournament. Three hundred students in 29 teams battled it out with Aldine Middle taking home fourth place. Aldine Middle School was the top school in its category.

The team is coached by Thomas Lucker, technology specialist at Aldine Middle School and Calvert Elementary School.
