Orange Grove Elementary Team in Top 5 at Regional Destination ImagiNation Event

On Saturday, Feb. 23, 128 teams from Humble ISD, Klein ISD, Tomball ISD and Aldine ISD competed in the Regional Destination ImagiNation Tournament held at the Aldine Staff Development Center. This is the event known to inspire students to be creative problem solvers. Sara Ptomey, AISD executive director of curriculum and instruction, organized the regional event.

Teams, composed of anywhere from two to seven students, worked over the past few months on a challenge that required collaboration, problem solving and creativity. At the tournament, students presented their solution to a team of appraisers and competed in an instant challenge as well. Scores from the two challenges were combined to determine placement.

All first place teams will advance to the state event and some second place teams will be invited after all the regional tournament results are in from around the state. Two teams — Marcella Intermediate and MacArthur High — from Aldine ISD will advance.

The team from Orange Grove Elementary School took home fifth place in the In Disguise Challenge. The team is comprised of Esmeralda Ramos, Ariana Garza, Alex Alonso, Destiny Aranda, and Karissa Marín. Meagan Lanphear and Tyler Houtz serve as team managers.
