Orange Grove Elementary Celebrates Read Across America

In observance of Read Across America Day, Orange Grove Elementary School honored Dr. Seuss’ 109th birthday. Campus staff encouraged students to bring their favorite Dr. Seuss book to school, dress like their favorite Dr. Seuss character, or create a project about one of Dr. Seuss’ books that they have read.

During lunch, Orange Grove students enjoyed a video of Tim Tebow and Justin Bieber reading Dr. Seuss books. Teachers also joined in the fun by dressing as characters from Dr. Seuss books.

The students joined millions of their peers across the country to celebrate the 16th annual National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America Day on Friday, March 1. NEA’s Read Across America Day, which celebrates Dr. Seuss’s birthday and the joys of reading, expected more than 45 million readers, both young and old, to pick up a book and read.

To honor the good doctor and celebrate the fun and value of reading, organizations are annually encouraged to join NEA and many of America’s leading literacy, youth, and civic groups in bringing a nation of readers together under one hat-the red and white stovepipe made famous by the Cat in the Hat-for a flurry (or furry) of reading excitement!
