The library at Rayford Intermediate School celebrated National Poetry Month by hosting a Poetry Café during the week of April 8. Students along with their language arts teachers visited the café and enjoyed reading and sharing poetry. According to Clemencia S. Ramírez , information literacy specialist at Rayford Intermediate, each table at the café featured various elements, forms and genres of poetry such as cinquain, haiku, limericks, free verse, narrative, lyric, list poetry, and concrete or visual poems. Some students and teachers also shared poems from their favorite poets while others shared poems they had written. Students took home “take-out” menus that included the forms of poetry featured at the café as well as poetry and information of some famous poets such as Dr. Seuss, Jack Prelutsky, Gary Soto, Shel Silverstein, Robert Frost, Langston Hughes, Jane Yolen, and Dave Crawley.
