4 Aldine ISD Campuses Named Best Schools in Children at Risk 2013 Rankings

Carver High School ranked 25 in Greater Houston High School 2013 Rankings while MacArthur, Aldine and Eisenhower placed second, third and sixth, respectively, in the Best Urban Comprehensive High School Rankings. The annual ranking system developed by Children at Risk looks at campuses in the greater Houston area, which include Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, and Waller.

The ranking system used by Children at Risk represents a compilation of factors that indicate the degree to which a campus has prepared students. The data used were obtained from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and are reported for the most recent year available. In the high school rankings, Children at Risk used the following 14 variables or indicators, which are geared toward determining the college-readiness of graduates: TAKS Commended Performance in reading, TAKS Commended Performance in math, TAKS Commended Performance in social studies, TAKS Commended Performance in science, Recommended high school program, advanced courses, AP (advanced placement)/IB (International Baccalaureate) test-takers, AP/IB students passing, attendance rate, graduation rate, SAT/ACT test-takers, mean SAT score, mean ACT score, and percent of economically disadvantaged.

Aldine High School, Carver High School, and MacArthur High School also earned Silver Awards in the U.S. News & World Report Best High School in U.S. 2013 Rankings. One Aldine ISD campus — Victory Early College High School — earned a Gold Award. Of the more than 21,000 schools analyzed, only 2.7% earned gold, 9.8% ranked silver and 13.8% received bronze awards. Eisenhower High received a Bronze Award in U.S. News’ 2012 rankings.

Carver High made the top 25 in Children at Risk 2012 rankings while MacArthur High made the list of Best Urban Comprehensive High Schools in 2011.
