DreVian Young Strikes Gold in Austin

The third time was a charm for DreVian Young.

The Nimitz High sprinter won a gold medal in the 400-meter dash at the Class 5A State Track and Field Meet, held May 10-11 in Austin.

As a sophomore and junior, Young finished second in the event, but as a senior, he blazed to a first-place finish with a time of 46.80.

Young also earned a bronze medal at the state meet along with fellow members of Nimitz’s 1600-meter relay team thanks to their third-place finish in the event.

The team of Stephen Lackey, Davonte Edwards, Lonnie Strambler and Young finished in 3:15.02 to earn bonze medal honors.

Young and the relay team were under the direction of head coach Remon Smith.
