The City of Houston and Texas Children’s Health Plan will hold separate “Back to School” events on Saturday, Aug. 10.
The Mayor’s third annual Back to School Fest will be held at the University of Houston from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. This year’s event is open to Aldine ISD students in grades K-5 who reside inside the City of Houston.
Students must be pre-registered to attend this event. Students need to be registered by Friday, Aug. 2. Parents may register their children online or by calling (832) 393-0939.
Students who attend the event will receive backpacks, limited apparel, immunizations and hair cut vouchers. Additionally, health screenings by local agencies, City of Houston services, University of Houston programs, and food supplied by the Houston Food Bank and Target Hunger will also be available.
Parents who pre-register their children will need to bring their letter of confirmation, their children’s current immunization record (if your child or children need immunizations), proof of residency inside the City of Houston and a May, June, July or August 2013 utility bill (electricity, water, phone, or gas) showing the name and current address of the parent or guardian. The registered child (or children) must be in attendance to receive services and school supplies.
Also on Aug. 10, Texas Children’s Health Plan will hold its ninth annual Back to School Fair from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Greenspoint Mall.
Not only will parents be able to take advantage of the “Tax Free Weekend” sales but their children can also receive a free backpack with school supplies courtesy of Texas Children’s Health Plan. Free health screenings, such as glucose, BMI and blood pressure and free vaccines (parents will need to bring their children’s immunization records) will also be available.
Various organizations and non-profits will also be on hand to inform parents and children about programs and services available to the community.
