AISD meets state accountability standards

Aldine ISD showed marked improved in meeting Texas’ academic accountability standards as 66 schools received a “met standard” rating based on test scores, graduation rates, and other measures.

Eight Aldine ISD schools received a “required improvement” rating.

The district earned a “met standard” rating from the Texas Education Agency.

AISD’s curriculum and instruction department worked with district principals during the summer of 2013 to pour over data and developed improvement plans and increased staffing to address the results from the 2012-13 school year.

While the district is pleased with the increase in the number of schools meeting standard, Aldine will continue to work to improve performance on the STAAR (State Assessments of Academic Readiness) during the 2014-15 school year.

Superintendent Dr. Wanda Bamberg said administrators continued to study data during the summer to ensure that even more students are on track to graduate, prepared for college and a rewarding career.

Beginning this school year, more classroom resources will be made available to teachers to serve the district’s growing population of students who need help learning the English language.

Additionally, every ninth grade school and high school will be staffed with ESL (English as a Second Language) paraprofessionals in the classroom, and AISD math and literacy teachers will receive more targeted professional development.

“We do face some real challenges,” Dr. Bamberg said. “And our goal is always to rise to the challenge. We’re not where we need to be, but we believe we are moving in the right direction.”
