Carver High School Dance Department Presents ‘Cinderella: If the Shoe Fits’

The classic story of Cinderella is the basis for Carver High School’s upcoming dance production this fall. But Carver’s version of the tale has a twist. “Cinderella: If the Shoe Fits” will debut on Homecoming Night Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at the campus’ Performing Arts Building. Pre-sale tickets are $10.00 and $12.00 at the door.

Carver’s Dance Department invites AISD schools to bring students to the day shows of the production. The department has set day shows for Nov. 11, Nov. 13 and Nov. 14 with performances at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m.and 1:00 p.m. Tickets for day shows are $4.00 per student with a free chaperone ticket for every 30 students in attendance.

According to Sarita Salinas, “Cinderella: If the Shoe Fits” is a re-imagining of the traditional children’s fairy tale. The Carver Dance Department collaborated with the English Department to create this new rendition. Salinas is the performing arts chair at the magnet campus.

[quote]Cinderella is a wonderful fairy tale that connects with everyone,” said Salinas. “It seems most classic fairy tales have a Prince Charming who rescues the heroine. We wanted to spin the tale. Do you really need a Prince Charming to save the day?[/quote]

“We think everyone will enjoy the experience and invite community members to attend. The production features fresh and exciting plot twists that young and old are sure to enjoy.”

A Brief Synopsis of “Cinderella: If the Shoe Fits”

One day, a young Cinderella and her father, Lord Gunter, attend a festival. A fortuneteller lures Lord Gunter to gaze into her crystal ball. A vision of a woman clad in all black fills his mind. He becomes unable to think of anything except the woman. He wanders the streets in a daze looking for the woman in black with Cinderella at his side. Lord Gunter and Cinderella see the woman in black. She is the evil Lady Tremaine. Lord Gunter marries her.

On her 14th birthday, the news of her father’s disappearance turns Cinderella’s life upside down. But Cinderella refuses to believe that she will never see him again.

With her father gone, the stepmother has Cinderella serving as a scullery maid for her and Cinderella’s two stepsisters. Her stepmother hides Cinderella from everyone. She fears that Cinderella’s beauty will keep the prince from marrying one of her daughters so she can regain wealth and power.

As the years have gone by and with no one to confide in, Cinderella has developed friendships with the animals of the house. It is the animals that help Cinderella find her own corner of happiness. And in the process, Cinderella learns more about herself in ways she’s never imagined.

“The students have all been working very hard on the production,” said Salinas. “I hope folks come out to see these talented dancers and that the community members show their support.”
