The MacArthur High Generals won their sixth straight district cross country title by bettering Memorial High School at the District 18-6A Cross Country Meet, held Thursday, Oct. 23 at North Harris College-North Harris.

The Generals finished with 27 points to Memorial’s 35 points. MacArthur’s Francisco Hernandez was the overall individual winner, while teammate Luiz Yanez finished second overall.

In the girls’ division, Nimitz High finished in second place to Memorial High, while Aldine finished in third place.

All three AISD teams qualified for the Region III Cross Country Meet, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1 at Atascosicta High School.

“This is such a great group of kids who really worked hard all year,” said head coach Kelly Silha, who is assisted by Xang Chareunsab. “We lost a lot of experience from last year’s team, but these guys stepped up and made their own history. We knew Memorial was going to be tough and they were. We’re very happy with the results.”

Joining Hernandez and Yanez on the district-winning team were Abraham Pineda, Andrew Pineda, Andrew Pena, Santiago Solorio, Eulises Garcia and Gerardo Villareal.
The Lady Cougars, under the direction of head coach Dennis Brazy, earned their trip to the Region III Meet with a second-place finish at the District 18-6A Meet. The team consists of Heather Vazquez, Markeiysha Reed, Yanet Lopez, Sofia Price, Isabel Martinez, Abigail Rodriguez and Ivette Carmona.

The Lady Mustangs, under the direction of head coach Lonnie Johnson, also advanced to regionals. The team consists of Gloria Coronado, Perla Hernandez, Alondra Ramirez, Marisol Garcia, Darinka Rosales-Escobar and Eva Soto.
