Sheriff Adrián García Visits Eisenhower High School’s Criminal Justice Class

Students at Eisenhower High School received a special visit Oct. 30. Sheriff Adrián García stopped by to talk to students in teacher Gregory Jones’ criminal justice class about pursuing a career in the field.

García talked about the history of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and how it has evolved. He discussed the importance and duty of every citizen to act as a good role model.

The students also learned about a scholarship from Harris County and the University of Houston-Downtown. The scholarship allows criminal justice prospective students to attend police academies. It is here that folks receive training to become sheriff’s deputies.

Sheriff García got a little personal as well. He shared his own life story and how his older brother influenced him.

Students heard what made García first become a Houston Police Department officer. And then what led him to become the Sheriff of Harris County.

Sheriff García’s speech motivated students including Natasha Amador.

“Hearing from Sheriff García really inspired me,” said Amador. “His story and what he has been through has motivated me to achieve my goals.”

Everyone at Eisenhower High School thanks Sheriff García for taking the time to visit with students.
