Aldine ISD Students Advance to Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo School Art Contest

Students created western-themed artworks to showcase in Aldine ISD’s annual art show. Judges from the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo School Art Committee selected nine students to advance. They will compete in the rodeo’s competition where their art will be further judged and exhibited at the NRG Center.

AISD students created thousands of artworks. Of these, 465 artworks placed in the district contest by earning many first place, second place and third place ribbons. Students also took home Best of Show Awards, Gold Medals, Special Merits, and Finalists Awards.

Students in prekindergarten programs through Grade 12 submitted pieces for the competition. This marks the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]45th year that AISD students take part in the HLS&R program.

The district hosted a competition on Jan. 14 at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center. The Show’s School Art Committee judged the artworks. Students compete in elementary, junior high and high school divisions. From the blue ribbon winners, the committee selects the Best of Show, Gold Medal and Special Merit awards. All work by high school participants is eligible for the Show’s School Art Auction.

The Best of Show, Gold Medal and Special Merit award recipients will advance to compete in the HLS&R Art Contest. Folks can view the student artworks in the Hayloft Gallery located in the NRG Center complex between March 3 through March 22. They will compete for many scholarships and other major awards, including a spot in the public auction.

Last year, the Show received more than  200,000 entries. The 2014 Grand Champion sold at auction for $210,000.

HLS&R organizers will recognize recipients of Best of Show, Gold Medal and Special Merit awards. The School Arts Award Presentation is set for Saturday, March 7.
