Mark Your Calendars: Annual Aldine ISD Livestock Show, Art Auction Set for February 2-6

The Annual AISD Livestock Show and Art Auction are set for Feb. 2-6, 2015. The events will take place at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center (1865 Aldine Bender Road).

Judges will judge projects starting Thursday, Feb. 6, beginning at 8 a.m. in the M.O. Campbell (MOC) Center Arena.

On Feb. 4-6, all projects will be on display to the public throughout the day. The event organizers will hold the Sale of Champions and Art Auction on the evening of Friday, Feb. 6 (see calendar below). The sale and art auction will take place at the MOC.

Additionally, breakfast and barbecue plates will be on sale Feb. 5-6 in Room 104 of the M.O. Campbell Center. Event organizers invite everyone in the community to buy some grub. Folks can eat at the MOC or buy plates for family members, friends and co-workers.

The money awarded to student members of Future Farmers of America (FFA) for their projects is theirs. They can use the funds for college scholarships or to fund future FFA projects. The same is true for monies awarded to students through the Art Auction. The art students can keep the money for college or to buy art supplies.

Franklin Higgins hopes to see many members of the Aldine community at the event. Higgins serves as the director of career and technical education (CTE) for AISD. His department is over the FFA programs at the high school campuses.

“Every year so many people and groups make a special effort to support our students as buyers,” said Higgins. “I know our students, parents and teachers appreciate the support of the Aldine community. This is a great opportunity for folks in the community to talk to the students and learn more about the FFA program in Aldine ISD.”

Higgins stated that the upcoming Livestock Show will be the 56th event the district holds. This will be the eighth year for the Art Auction.

Dr. Michaelann Kelley also praises the community’s support toward AISD students. Kelley serves as the district’s visual arts program director.

“We have so many talented young artists,” said Kelley. “The art auction is a great scholarship opportunity for our students. In 2014, the Silent Art Auction brought in $7,350. This was only made possible by the generous support of the community. I hope everyone comes out to see the artwork. At the Art Auction, folks will have a chance to meet with the young artists and to bid to own an original piece of artwork created by our students.”

Kelley added that for the 2015 event, organizers are doing something different. For the first time, the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion artworks will be part of the Live Auction. This will take place during the FFA Buyers Dinner set for Friday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. The third through eighth place artworks will also be up for auction. But these pieces will be up for bidding during the Silent Art Auction that kicks off Friday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m.

Again, folks can also help FFA students by buying some grub on Feb. 5 and Feb. 6. FFA staff and parents will be cooking and serving 1-, 2- and 3-meat (brisket, sausage and chicken) barbecue plates. Other items include barbeque sandwiches, baked potatoes, nachos and boudin. And of course a Texas favorite is on the menu: Frito® pie. Folks can buy dinners between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. FFA folks will also be selling breakfasts on these two days between 6:30-10:30 a.m. The breakfast menu includes coffee, orange juice, breakfast burritos and sweet rolls. Breakfast items will also include pancakes and plates of pancakes and sausage.
