2 Aldine ISD Campuses Receive Magnet Schools of America Awards

Magnet Schools of America announced the recipients of the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]2015 Magnet Schools of Merit Awards. The awards program recognizes the top magnet schools in the United States.

The Award recognizes campuses for demonstrating:

[ul class=”list list-search”] [li]Commitment to high academic standards[/li] [li]Curriculum innovation [/li][/ul] [ul class=”list list-search”] [li]Campus diversity[/li] [li]Specialized teaching staffs [/li][/ul] [ul class=”list list-search”] [li]Parent and community engagement[/li] [li]Consistent delivery of quality services to all stakeholders [/li][/ul]

MSA established two categories of awards: Magnet Schools of Excellence and Magnet Schools of Distinction. The top category, awarded to a group of select magnet schools, is the Magnet School of Excellence Award. The second category of awards is the Magnet School of Distinction Award.

The three AISD magnet campuses were the only schools in Texas to receive MSA honors.

The following AISD campuses received 2015 Magnet Schools of America Merit Awards:

Carter Academy

Themes: Performing and Visual Arts

School of Distinction

Jewell Simpson Houston Academy
Grades: 5-6
Themes: Math, Science and Fine Arts
Principal: Ruby Allen

Todd Mann praised the national merit award recipients. Mann is executive director of MSA.

“The announcement of our national merit awards is an exciting time for the entire magnet school community,” Mann said. “This is a great way for our association to acknowledge the creativity, passion and dedication of so many people. The awards recognize our highest quality theme-based schools and programs. They are models of success and represent the best in public education.“

Magnet Schools of America will recognize the Merit Award recipients at the national conference. The event is set for April 22-25 in Raleigh, NC.
