Raymond Academy Educator Participates In Training Focused on Technology To Support Student Achievement
Participants worked to develop strategies for creating student-centered learning environments.

[dropcap color=”#888″ type=”square”]S[/dropcap]haina Glass attended the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Discovery Education Network (DEN) Summer Institute (DENSI). The immersive, weeklong professional development experience took place in Chicago.
[icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]DENSI 2016 took place at Loyola University. It featured many interactive seminars and hands-on workshops designed to support educators. Sessions focused on combining the latest technologies and digital content. Educators discussed how to create student-centered digital learning environments.
Glass is an instructional technology specialist at [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Raymond Academy. She and fellow attendees also had the opportunity to connect, collaborate and share resources. They discussed ideas and strategies for integrating technology and digital media in the classroom.
“DENSI was a great experience,” said Glass. “I learned so much. And I got to connect with other enthusiastic educators. We have a passion to effectively use digital resources to enhance student learning.”
Participation in the DEN Summer Institute is open to STAR Discovery Educators. STAR Discovery Educators are active members of DEN. They are leaders transforming the educational experience.
DEN is the largest and most active professional learning network of its kind. Lance Rougeux lauded Glass for her commitment to use technology in and out the classroom. Rougeux is vice president of learning communities and innovation at Discovery Education.
“Her participation in DENSI will help increase student engagement,” said Rougeux. “She is supporting educators. And she is preparing all learners to succeed beyond the classroom.”
Besides hearing from education experts, Glass participated in a series of interactive workshops. These focused on creating digital content and integrating mobile and Web-based tools into instruction. Glass also collaborated with fellow educators on a variety of educational technology projects. She also shared best practices with her peers.
Teachers from Canada, United Kingdom, Sweden, Egypt and the U.S. attended DENSI 2016.
Since taking part in DENSI, Glass is helping her colleagues transform teaching and learning. She has been sharing strategies and techniques to integrate technology into instructional approaches.
“When technology is used effectively and strategically, it can complement the foundations of good teaching and a rigorous curriculum, so that every student is able to achieve his or her potential.”
[icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Raymond Academy is an elementary level magnet school in Aldine ISD. The campus focuses on engineering.
Since 2001, the campus has received many [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Magnet Schools of America Merit Awards. Raymond is a seven-time School of Excellence Award recipient. It is also a three-time School of Distinction. In 2008, Raymond Academy received the Magnet Schools of Excellence Special Recognition Award.
