Dear Aldine Community,

At Aldine ISD, our vision is that all students will receive a dynamic and unparalleled education that guarantees choices and opportunities today and in the future. Our vision remains true, no matter where students are learning, how teachers are teaching, or what circumstances we face. 

We know that relationships matter, and we hold those close, especially during uncertain times.

We believe a rigorous and enriching educational experience is critical for success in college, career, and life.

We are committed to ensuring those relationships and experiences continue, no matter what.

While we cannot stand shoulder to shoulder, we will stand by each other.

We are Aldine, and we are better together. 

Here’s how we celebrated that togetherness last week:

• We launched a billboard campaign to ensure our community feels united during this time when we are apart.
• We honored educators during Teacher Appreciation Week!
• We launched a Senior Survey to support seniors as they prepare for their next journeys.
• Our Board of Trustees shared how grateful they are for our resilience in these hard times. 

This week, we’re focusing on what the rest of the school year will look like.

Class of 2020 Celebrations 

We recognize that the Class of 2020 is special this year. The coronavirus pandemic changed or eliminated many of the traditions our seniors have waited for years to experience. In addition to district activities that will culminate in July with our graduation ceremonies, schools have created events to celebrate students, including hosting virtual academic award ceremonies, featuring students on social media, and handing out signs that acknowledge their accomplishments. We are also encouraging students to participate in the virtual ceremonies that are being organized and attend the ceremony planned by Mayor Sylvester Turner for the city of Houston.

Plans for Next Year

We have formed a new committee tasked with building our Return to School Plan. The work is based on organizational and school best practices in design thinking and responsive leadership. The committee is meeting with various departments, receiving input from staff, and researching approaches from around the world. While we have not made any decisions, please know the safety of our staff and students is our top priority as we determine the best path forward for continuous learning.

Parent Survey

We are also seeking input from parents and families through a survey that will be going out tomorrow (in English and Spanish). Look for the link in your email, and please share your thoughts as we review how Aldine ISD has responded to the needs of our stakeholders during this crisis. Our partner, K12 Insights, is issuing the survey, and we will use the feedback to shape how we develop emergency preparedness plans. 

Reminders

All online learning activities and resources can be found on our Aldine At-Home website. Students should be completing Week 10 of the Home Learning Activity Guide.  Grades for designated assignments for 6th-12th grade students will be taken through Monday, May 18.

Aldine ISD schools and facilities are closed through May 28, the last day of instruction.
