Aldine ISD recently received a donation of 2,000 books from the Red Oaks Foundation.

Aldine ISD recently received a donation of 2,000 books from the Red Oaks Foundation.

The books were distributed to primary and elementary students who live in apartment complexes in the Greenspoint area. The district provided 40 books per box that were distributed to 50 apartment complexes in Greenspoint.

Rebecca and Jon Brumley, founded Red Oaks Foundation 22 years ago from their home in Fort Worth. The goal of the foundation is to spread the joy and benefits of reading to children, especially those who may not have enough books at home.

Since its inception, the foundation has provided more than 678,000 new, hardcover books through a variety of programs that encourage parents to read to their children from birth through the age of five.

Rebecca lived in Houston for a short time and taught English at Hambrick Middle School.

“I want to thank Board Vice President Rose Avalos for securing this generous donation,” said Martha Escalante, the executive director designee of Family and Community Engagement. “We worked with Abel Garza to identify how many of our students living in apartment complexes that do not have Internet access. We wanted to provide resources for them while they are away from school.”
