Dr. Tamika Alford-Stephens, Chief Business and Operations Officer for Aldine ISD, has been selected for the AASA/Howard University Urban Superintendents Academy.

The selection process for the premier leadership academy is highly competitive. The academy brings leaders together to help accelerate academic performance growth and be a champion for historically-underrepresented and diverse populations. The group’s purpose is to address both historic and current national and local social challenges. 

This fall, Alford-Stephens will join other leaders to break down barriers and ensure all students and staff have equitable access and opportunities for innovation and advancement. 

“I am excited about the opportunity to learn from a dynamic group of educators who also believe that all students deserve access to an educational experience that guarantees choices and opportunities today and beyond,” Alford-Stephens said. 

The national program’s goal is to prepare superintendents for the demands of the urban environment. The program will prepare the cohort to deal effectively and creatively with community relations and politics in the urban setting, use facilitative skills for relationship building, and become a strategic leader who demonstrates critical reasoning and problem solving.

AASA, The School Superintendents Association, launched a partnership with Howard University to bolster the effectiveness of school district leadership in our nation’s urban areas. The cross-institutional partnership offers a dynamic approach to urban superintendent preparation and certification. The academy is sponsored by McGraw Hill Education.
