Aldine Announces Re-0pening Plans for Students

In consultation with local officials and health experts, we have moved our decision meter to the Orange Level. Orange signifies a severe and uncontrolled level of COVID-19 in our community as determined by local health officials, meaning that there is ongoing transmission of the virus. We are advised to minimize contact with others and avoid medium or large gatherings. 

With the health of our students and staff in mind, we will begin in-person instruction for specific groups of students who selected on-campus learning starting Monday, Sept. 21. We have implemented a staggered schedule that allows us to slowly bring students back.

“As circumstances and needs change, we recognize that families may need to change their mode of learning. We have developed a plan for families who will have the opportunity to change their instructional commitment for the next grading period. The process for making these changes will be communicated soon and will go into effect on October 20,” said Aldine ISD Chief of Schools Katy Roede.

Athletics and Marching Band

Starting Monday, Sept. 14, Strength & Conditioning Camp will resume for middle and high school athletes. In addition, limited marching band practices will take place. Please note that transportation is not provided next week. Regular athletics and marching band practices will resume Monday, Sept. 21, and include transportation for eligible students.

Learning On Campus

Our COVID Task Force has worked to identify the groups of students who would benefit most from in-person instruction. This schedule is for students who selected learning on campus as of August 26, 2020.

Transition Group 1

This group includes our youngest learners, those who are in Special Education, and secondary recent immigrants who are identified as part of our AEA program. Students who have been assigned to our alternative education program housed at the Knippel Alternative Education Center and students who attend Hall Success Academy will also return. First-graders and sixth-graders will also return. At the high school level, we will welcome back ninth-graders and 10th-graders on a hybrid model:

• Students whose last name begins with A-L will attend class on campus Mondays and Tuesdays. 
• Students whose last name begins with M-Z will attend class on campus Wednesdays and Thursdays. 
• Fridays are reserved for online learning.

Transition Group 2

In addition to the group above we will welcome back kindergarten students, second, third and seventh-graders. At the high school level, we will welcome back 11th-graders on a hybrid model:

• Students whose last name begins with A-L will attend class on campus Mondays and Tuesdays. 
• Students whose last name begins with M-Z will attend class on campus Wednesdays and Thursdays. 
• Fridays are reserved for online learning.

Transition Group 3

Our final group of students will return the week of October 5: fourth-graders, fifth-graders, and eighth-graders. The Class of 2021 will return following the high school hybrid schedule:

• Students whose last name begins with A-L will attend class on campus Mondays and Tuesdays. 
• Students whose last name begins with M-Z will attend class on campus Wednesdays and Thursdays. 
• Fridays are reserved for online learning.

The Next Nine Weeks

For students not in these transition groups, or those who opted to learn at home for the first nine weeks, learning will continue to take place virtually. We have received positive feedback from families so far about the great interactions that have been possible virtually.
