District Seeks Feedback About Expanding Choice Programs Through Community Survey

The Aldine Independent School District is seeking input from parents and community members through a survey launched today. It explores expanding and adding school choice programs in the coming years.

Beginning October 5, the school choice survey will be available until 11:59 p.m. on October 16 on the homepage of the District website at www.AldineISD.org. Feedback gained from this survey will help shape and guide decisions on what kinds of new programs will be added, or existing schools converted, to provide more educational options and opportunities for students.

“The transformation of Aldine ISD is a community effort,” Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney said. “The survey is an important way people can help us plan for the future. The survey is an opportunity for our key stakeholders to share their voice. Again, we remain committed to our promise to students. We remain steadfast in giving our students access to high-quality schools and programs. We want to provide parents and students with more options and choices that best meet student needs. We urge all community members, whether or not they are a current Aldine ISD parent, to take part in this survey to help shape the future of Aldine.”

Aside from gaging stakeholders’ — families, staff, students, and community members — satisfaction and awareness of district choice programs, AISD is also seeking interest level in several options such as a young women’s preparatory school, a young men’s leadership academy, expanding two-way dual language program to offer additional languages (currently the program offers English/Spanish), and a newcomer school that would target non-English speakers living in the United States for less than a year to boost their English language skills. The district would provide new students with a structured classroom environment that focuses on subject-area content, including reading, writing, and speaking skills. The school district is also asking about what other programs stakeholders are interested in for AISD to offer students.

All responses will be strictly confidential. AISD has partnered with an independent research and communications firm, K12 Insight, to administer the survey and compile the results. No one in the district or the child’s school will know if a parent or legal guardian participates or how they respond.

Staff members and students’ families will receive an invite to participate in the survey from K12 Insight. Additionally, they will also receive an email from Dr. Goffney.

Besides sharing the survey link on the district and school websites, the district will also share it on Facebook pages and Twitter. The survey is available in English and Spanish.
