Aldine ISD Celebrates National School Lunch Week

Aldine ISD is celebrating National School Lunch Week, October 12-16. Due to COVID-19 our school breakfast and lunch experiences look different. National School Lunch Week aims to highlight the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life. The theme for this year is “Now Playing: School Lunch!”

“School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” Dani Sheffield, executive director of child nutrition. “National School Lunch Week helps educate students and families about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.”

The federally-funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has been fueling students for success for more than 70 years. Aldine ISD Child Nutrition will offer free meals through an extended waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA). Students learning on campus and at home can receive breakfast and lunch at no cost through the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.

All students are eligible for one breakfast and one lunch per day per federal guidance. Aldine ISD students learning at home and children 18 and under can pick up meal bundles from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A full list of curbside meal sites and more information can be found online.
