Blanson CTE High School Partners With the University of Houston to Offer Students a Logistics Certification

A new partnership between Blanson CTE High School and the Supply Chain & Logistics Technology Program in the College of Technology at the University of Houston will provide students in the Distribution & Logistics program an opportunity to receive international certifications from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). CILT is the oldest international transportation and logistics organization in the world. Funding for the program was provided through the Port of Houston Community Grants Program.

32 juniors and seniors from Blanson CTE will participate in the program. This is the first time the University of Houston, in partnership with CILT, has offered this program.

“I am so happy that the students in my program will have this opportunity to grow in knowledge and experience,” Shawn Bingham, Blanson CTE distribution and logistics teacher, said. “This partnership will help make Blanson one of the premier CTE high schools in the Houston area.”

Blanson CTE High School provides Aldine ISD students an opportunity to gain valuable workforce skills. The campus encourages students to obtain an industry-standard recognized national certification before graduation. Additionally, the campus provides unique program offerings for students in multiple areas, including Animation, Audio/Video Production, Computer Programming & Game Design, Construction Technology, Dental Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and Physical Therapy Assistant. 

“Our goal is to close the skills gap in a region that has become America’s Global Logistics Hub,” Margaret Kidd, University of Houston College of Technology program director of Supply Chain & Logistics Technology, said. “By addressing gaps in skill sets and focusing on filling those gaps, our K-12, community college, and university students, not only become more marketable at multiple scales but more saliently, have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream. Applying the power of technology and innovation toward solving real-world challenges is what fuels us in the College of Technology.”

Students who complete the program will receive a certificate credentialed by CILT for Introduction to Logistics, Introduction to Business Communication and Transportation Distribution in Logistics.
