Aldine ISD Celebrates National School Counseling Week, February 1–5

National School Counseling Week is being celebrated from Feb. 1–5, 2021. The event highlights counselors’ unique contributions and the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Take a moment to thank your local school counselor(s).

According to Jill Cook, ASCA executive director, school counselors work with all students to remove learning barriers.

“School counselors address students’ academic concerns, post-secondary options, and social-emotional skills. School counseling programs help increase student achievement and provide a much-needed resource for students, parents, teachers, and administrators. School counselors are integral to student success.”

Many schools will celebrate to call attention to the countless benefits of comprehensive school counseling programs.

“This week, we honor school counselors who are a vital part of our educational system,” Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney. “They work with our students, helping them examine their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents. School counselors work with parents, teachers, and other educators to meet students’ academic needs and social-emotional well-being. Their efforts help students realize their potential and aspirations.”

The theme this year is “School Counselors: All In for All Students.” Along with preparing students and their families for life outside the classroom, they also offer guidance through difficult situations and pointing them toward additional resources.

Parents or community members with specific questions or concerns about school counseling programs should contact the school counselors at their child’s school.
