Aldine ISD Announces Winners of the Inaugural Black History Oratory Competition

Aldine ISD students in grades 3-12 delivered powerful speeches during the district’s inaugural Black History Oratory Competition.

The competition coincided with Black History Month in February and served as a district-wide celebration. Before selecting district-level winners, each campus hosted individual campus competitions.

To participate in the competition, students created a spoken presentation that relates to the theme, Leadership Matters in Aldine ISD. During the 3 to 5-minute presentations, students shared what they believed it means to be a leader who Connects, Inspires, and Impacts. The oratory piece was then recorded and uploaded using Flipgrid, an online video discussion tool.

Once campus winners were determined district judges selected three first-place winners from each grade level. Three first-place winners (Elementary, Middle, and Ninth Grade and High School) were named 2021 Aldine ISD Black History Oratory winners. The winners received a trophy and were honored at the March 9 School Board meeting.

The competition was made possible by a districtwide planning group. The Aldine ISD outreach and engagement and the teaching and learning departments worked together to ensure the success of the virtual competition.

9th Grade and High School Category

1st Place – Minnatullah Embaby, 10th Grade, Aldine High School

2nd Place –Patience Washington, 9th Grade, Eisenhower Ninth

3rd Place – Madison Carazes, 11th Grade, Eisenhower High School

Middle School Category

1st Place – Justina Meta, 7th Grade, Teague Middle School

2nd Place- Kesandra Williams, 8th Grade, Hall Success Academy

3rd Place – Ayana Ned, 6th Grade, Hambrick Middle School

Elementary School Category

1st Place – Viviana Maldonado, 5th Grade, Johnson Elementary

2nd Place –Davia Gaines, 5th Grade, Harris Elementary
