Carver Theater Students Excel in District UIL One-Act Play Contest, Advance to Bi-District Meet

Carver HS’ theater troupe advances to bi-district UIL one-act play contest. This is the 10th time in 11 years that the magnet school’s troupe and students are named district champions.

Theater students from Carver High School competed in the Zone A and District 14 6A UIL One-Act Play contests. Based on their performances in The Diviners, the Carver HS thespians are advancing to the Bi-District Meet. The Carver troupe will compete again on Thursday, March 25, at Willis High School.

During the 2021 spring UIL OAP season, Aldine ISD had four school theater troupes advance from the Zone to District contests — Carver HS, Eisenhower HS, MacArthur HS, and Nimitz HS.

Carver Named District Champions

This is the 10th time in 11 years that the Carver High School theater troupe and performing arts students have been named District Champions. The troupe also received 1st place rankings at both Zone- and District-level contests. Theater Director Roshunda Jones-Koumba and Technical Theater Director Jabari Collins lead the troupe. Carver HS is an Aldine ISD School Choice campus. 

The Diviners is a marvelously theatrical play by Jim Leonard Jr. It centers on a disturbed young man and his friendship with a disenchanted preacher in southern Indiana in the early 1930s. The play is a luminous story of religion and magic, faith and doubt, love and grief.
