Many students would say that the 2020-2021 school year has been “weird.” Their teachers would agree. Teachers endured the ongoing pandemic and survived Winter Storm Uri. They met challenge after challenge to move forward to meet goals and to be present — whether in person or virtually — for students.
“The 2020-2021 school year is nearly over, and we are getting through it, in part thanks to our amazing educators,” Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney said. “You continue to amaze me every day as you demonstrate how together, we are better. I could not be more proud to be the Superintendent of the Aldine Independent School District. I encourage families, students, leaders, and the community to take a moment this week to #ThankAnAldineISDTeacher.”
Goffney lauds the hard work, commitment, and invaluable contributions teachers have made to Aldine. Their work added Goffney, has been integral to our progress, success, meeting district goals, and students’ and families’ needs. These were not easy feats in “a year filled with new ways of teaching and learning, feeding, transporting, and increasing access to a high-quality education.”
Teachers change the lives of children every day. Their immense work and impact, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, have provided a much-needed sense of community and connection. Despite the challenges this school year, educators are working harder than ever. They help every student learn, be inspired, and achieve their full potential. When students have the tools they need and understand how to use them, they build confidence and develop learning strategies to help them in school, college, career, and throughout their lives.
Educators play a pivotal role in our children’s lives, inspiring a lifelong love of learning and discovery and making a difference in their social-emotional well-being and long-term success.
