La Promesa, the Newcomer School, to Host Two In-Person Enrollment Events on July 23 and July 30; School Starts August 16

Staff will help families enroll incoming ninth-graders for the 2021-2022 school year. The school will focus on students who have lived three or fewer years in the U.S. and are from non-English speaking countries or have limited English proficiency.

The district’s newest school, La Promesa, will give students new to the U.S. access to a high-quality school and learning experiences that prepare them for the future. La Promesa will focus exclusively on students who have lived in the U.S. for three or fewer years, known as newcomers. The school is set to open in fall 2021. La Promesa students will graduate ready for college and career. Students will have a strong support system that develops their knowledge and skills and prepares them to thrive in the future.

In-Person Enrollment Events

With the 2021-2022 school year starting in a few weeks, La Promesa Principal Ana Fernanda Flores-Bolívar will host two in-person enrollment events to help families enroll their incoming ninth-graders for the 2021-2022 school year. Univisión and Telemundo featured La Promesa in May when the school began to enroll students.

As a reminder, as of May 28, the district no longer conducts the visitor COVID-19 screening process. In addition, masks are now optional at all Aldine ISD campuses and administrative buildings. The district encourages everyone to do their part to keep the community safe.

Why Do I Need to Enroll My Child Now?

La Promesa is one of the district’s Choice Schools. Aldine ISD believes that all children are unique. Each student learns in different ways. The district believes that if all students can attend a high-quality school that matches their interests and targets their needs, they will achieve their full potential. La Promesa will focus exclusively on students who have lived three or fewer years in the U.S. and are from non-English speaking countries or have limited English proficiency. The curriculum will address their unique needs like learning a new language, adapting to a new culture, and adjusting to a new school system. La Promesa students will graduate ready for college and careers. Students will receive the skills and tools they need to succeed in school, college, career, and life. La Promesa students will graduate with choices and opportunities.

Students do not need to be zoned to a School of Choice. However, families are already making back-to-school plans. Due to La Promesa’s popularity and limited seats, students do need to enroll.

What do I Need to Bring to Enroll My Child?

You need to bring your child’s Student ID number if they are currently enrolled in Aldine ISD and an email address.
If your child is not currently enrolled in Aldine ISD or living in the Aldine ISD area, you need to provide documentation that your child is enrolled in 8th grade and school records from their country.

Does the School Have a Website?

Yes. Families can LaPromesa.AldineISD.org to download the PowerPoint presentation in English and Spanish and/or the flyer available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

Will My Child Lose Their First Language and Their Heritage?

A Few Things to Know About La Promesa?

La Promesa will only serve ninth graders in the 2021-2022 school year. It will add a grade level each year until becoming a 9th-12th grade campus.
During the 2022-2023 school year, La Promesa will implement two Career and Technology Education (CTE) pathways. How does this benefit La Promesa students? The students at La Promesa will have the opportunity to obtain industry certifications in high demand.
Students can also earn college credit while in high school to complete their degree sooner.
La Promesa is opening in partnership and collaboration with the Internationals Network.
