Aldine ISD Students to Benefit From Free Breakfast and Lunch During the 2021-2022 School Year

In April 2021, The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that schools would be able to serve nutritious meals to all students free of charge regardless of eligibility through June 30, 2022. The National School Lunch Program Seamless Summer Option is expanding beyond the summertime and will be available for all Aldine ISD students through the 2021-2022 school year. 

Through this program, all students are eligible for free school breakfast and lunch meals. 

According to the USDA, as many as 12 million children are living in food-insecure households during the pandemic. Through this program, all children can access fruits, vegetables, milk and whole grains at no cost. 

“We are happy to provide quality food and service to all Aldine ISD students this year,”  Executive Director of Child Nutrition Services, Susan D’Amico said. “Our cafeteria managers are bringing back student favorites and there will be some new recipes shared at various campuses this year.”  

D’Amico also mentioned the after-school snack/supper program will be available in the fall and more information will be shared after school begins.

Families are not required to submit a free/reduced meal application, however, Aldine ISD Child Nutrition Services is asking that families apply for meal benefits 1) to ensure that their household qualifies for P-EBT funds if they become available again, 2) to allow for meal status eligibility carryover the following school year, and 3) so that the district receives funding to support all students the next year.
