District Works With Schools to Increase Engagement and Enhance the Campus Experience for Students and Families

Since the start of the school year, the Aldine Independent School District’s Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Department has been conducting walks at campuses to observe and gather feedback from staff and families. The department uses the input to support school leaders further in engaging families and the community.

The department staff members work with school administrators to schedule the FACE Walks. Campus administrators can invite two to three parents to provide input about what they would like to see at the school.

One component of the FACE Walks is an observation protocol to score the schools on numerous aspects: physical environment, schoolwide communication, learning connections, and written materials/technology.

Additionally, the input from parents and the rubric help the FACE team identify how they can better support campuses.

“One of our goals this year is to visit all campuses and provide administrators with effective strategies to engage their families,” said Dr. Martha Escalante, executive director of FACE. “This is one more way that we (Aldine ISD) are collaborating with families to ensure they have a voice in their child’s educational experience and to strengthen the relationship between families and the schools.”

In addition to providing effective ways to engage families, the FACE team also provides helpful tips for creating a welcoming family environment.

The initiative aligns with the district’s strategic plan, A New Way Forward, priority community engagement and outreach. Aldine ISD is dedicated to elevating district pride by strengthening partnerships with families, community leaders, and business partners.
