Prekindergarten and Kindergarten Preregistration for the 2022-2023 School Year Opens February 22

Eligible families can begin the online pre-enrollment process, which ends May 31, 2022.

Pre-enrollment opened on February 22 for eligible students entering the Aldine Independent Schools District for the first time in three grades — prekindergarten (PreK3 and PreK4) and new kindergarten. The deadline to pre-enroll students to PreK and kindergarten is May 31, 2022.

The early registration process gives parents information to ease the enrollment process. It also assists the district in planning for enrollment growth and staffing needs.

Currently Enrolled PreK Students Do Not Need to Pre-Enroll for Kindergarten

Aldine ISD students currently enrolled in prekindergarten do not need to pre-enroll for kindergarten. The deadline to pre-enroll students to PreK and kindergarten is May 31, 2022. Currently enrolled PreK students are considered returning Aldine ISD students. Instead, these families will complete an Annual Update Form online for returning students in August before school starts in fall 2022. This form will ensure Aldine ISD has the most up-to-date information on file for your children, such as contact information in the event of an emergency or school closing notification. To complete the Annual Update Form in August, families will need to have their Home Access Center (HAC) account.

3 Schools With Full-Day PreK3 Programs — Students Must Be Zoned to the Schools

Three Aldine ISD campuses offer preschool for three-year-olds (also known as PreK3); all other primary schools offer prekindergarten to four-year-olds (PreK4).

To enroll in the PK3 program, your child must qualify for PK3 and live in the PK3 campus attendance zone. Children who meet these qualifications will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.

If you live outside the PK3 campus attendance zone, your child will be placed on a waitlist until August 1. If seats are available at that time, students on the waitlist may be enrolled in order of the waitlist.

Again, whether zoned to the school or not, all students must meet age criteria and eligibility requirements.

4 AISD Schools Offer Full-Day Head Start Program (ages 3-5)

Head Start is a Federally Funded program that promotes the school readiness of eligible preschool children between three and five years old by enhancing their cognitive (brain), social, and emotional development. Head Start children and families receive comprehensive services that include health, dental, nutrition, family wellness, education, disabilities, and family services as a part of the federal guidelines.

AISD Head Start is a full-day (8:15 a.m.-3:40 p.m.) classroom-based program housed in four early childhood (EC), prekindergarten, and kindergarten campuses commonly known as primary schools:

• De Santiago
• Griggs
• Hinojosa
• Keeble
• Vines

The district’s Head Start classes have a maximum of 20 students, with a teacher and assistant in each classroom. They have high-quality indoor and outdoor learning environments that are developmentally appropriate for students.

Additionally, AISD establishes partnerships with families and assists in linking families to various local service agencies to meet their needs and children’s needs. The entire Head Start staff welcomes parental/family involvement in Head Start classroom activities, field trips, school meals, and various parent engagement events.

Aldine ISD grants Head Start eligibility to families that meet any of the following categories:

• The child to be enrolled is in foster care.
• The family is receiving benefits or services through the TANF Program.
• A family member living within the household that you support and is receiving Supplemental Security Income benefits (SSI)
• The family is homeless.

12 Early Childhood Schools (Primary Campus Grade Levels: EC/PreK/K)

Families and their children can choose from Aldine’s unique academic programs — preschool through Grade 11 — known as Choice Schools throughout the district. Two primary schools listed below — Kujawa and Reece — are considered Choice Schools. Students do not need to be zoned to Choice Schools. Choice Schools like the district’s magnet and International Baccalaureate (IB®) schools are open to Aldine ISD students who meet the criteria but must apply. Due to these programs’ popularity and limited seating. Aldine ISD families still have time to apply for a Choice School for the 2022-2023 school year. The spring lottery will take place on March 9, 2022.

The dual-language program started in fall 2019 in kindergarten classrooms and is expanding by one grade level each year. Students must start the program in kindergarten at one of five campuses — De Santiago EC/PreK/K School, García-Leza EC/PreK/K School, Hinojosa EC/PreK/K School, Magrill EC/PreK/K School, and Vines EC/PreK/K School. Students develop bilingual, bi-literate, and bicultural skills and knowledge. Native English speakers and native Spanish speakers receive general academic instruction in two languages. • PreK3: Students who will turn three years of age by September 1 of the current year can preregister for PreK3. They must also qualify to attend PreK programs offered for free and meet the eligibility criteria.
• PreK4: Students who will turn four years of age by September 1 of the current year can preregister for PreK4. They must also qualify to attend PreK programs offered for free and meet the eligibility criteria.
• Kindergarten: Students new to Aldine ISD who will turn five years of age by September 1 of the current year can preregister for kindergarten. Current students attending PreK in Aldine going into kindergarten in the 2022-2023 school year do not need to pre-enroll.

How to Pre-Enroll Your Child for 2022-2023?

Families must complete each step in the process to pre-enroll their students.

• Step 1: Go to AldineISD.org/primary to begin the process by completing the online pre-enrollment documents.
• Step 2: Starting April 1, families can call the school to set up an appointment. Families must fulfill Step 2 by May 22, 2022. Be on the lookout for school staff following up via email and/or phone call.
• Step 3: Complete the enrollment process by attending the appointment with the student’s school.
