Aldine ISD Announces Winners of the 2022 Black History Oratory Competition

Aldine ISD students in grades 3-12 delivered powerful speeches during the district’s 2nd annual Black History Oratory Competition. 

The competition coincided with Black History Month in February and served as a district-wide celebration. Before selecting district-level winners, each campus hosted individual campus competitions. 

To participate in the competition, students created a spoken presentation that relates to the theme, Changemakers. During the 3 to 5-minute presentations, students described how an African American leader has demonstrated leadership by inspiring others, connecting people of different cultures, and impacting change.The oratory piece was then recorded and uploaded using Flipgrid, an online video discussion tool. 

Once campus winners were determined district judges selected three first-place winners from each grade level. Three first-place winners (Elementary, Middle, and Ninth Grade and High School) were named 2022 Aldine ISD Black History Oratory winners. The winners will receive a trophy and will be honored at the March 8 School Board meeting.

The competition was made possible by a districtwide planning group. The Aldine ISD outreach and engagement and the teaching and learning departments worked together to ensure the success of the virtual competition.
