Aldine ISD offers free and healthy breakfasts and lunches to all students.

It can be a challenge for families to enjoy a healthy breakfast. Working families have busy, rushed mornings getting ready for work and getting their kids ready for school. Families don’t have to worry! In Aldine ISD, all students can enjoy nutritious school breakfasts for free!

Across the country, data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows that more students get their morning meals in school cafeterias.

And what a better time to recognize the importance of breakfast than during National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) during March 7-11. The campaign encourages families to take advantage of the healthy school breakfast choices available.

The NSBW campaign theme is “Take Off With School Breakfast.” It reminds parents and stakeholders that a healthy school breakfast helps ensure students’ academic success to “take off” and reach their goals.

“A healthy breakfast is one way to ensure students are ready to learn,” said Susan D’Amico, director of child nutrition. “We offer so many options for students to choose from at school. Students can rest assured they will find something they will enjoy eating.”

The district serves more than 35,000 breakfast meals daily. The School Breakfast Program is federally funded. School nutrition professionals prepare breakfast and lunches every day that meet federal nutrition standards. Staff members encourage students to choose healthy options offered with school meals.
