Aldine ISD to Host 2022 TeenBookCon

Aldine ISD will host the 2022 TeenBookCon from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at Davis Senior High School, 12525 Ella Blvd, Houston, TX. The annual free event brings in popular YA authors to speak on panel sessions throughout the day and participate in Q&A sessions. This year the event is back in person and has a virtual access option. During the event, teens and young adults will hear from their favorite authors, participate in activities curated by local public libraries, and can grab lunch from food trucks. This year the Keynote Speakers are authors Julie Murphy and Marrisa Meyer.

TeenBookCon began in 2010 as a collaboration between Houston-area librarians and Blue Willow Bookshop. Due to COVID-19, the last in-person TeenBookCon was held in 2019 and close to 2,000 people attended the festival. Children’s/Young Adult Specialist and Events Coordinator at Blue Willow Bookshop and TeenBookCon Chair, Cathy Berner, is excited to continue the festival’s mission to celebrate and promote reading by connecting teens with authors.

“We see teens move away from reading for pleasure due to increased extracurricular activities or school assignments and we want to continue to encourage recreational reading,” Berner explained. “We believe in connecting readers with authors because we believe a personal connection leads to a deeper interest in the author’s work. That interest can support a love of reading that will stay with teens for a lifetime.”
