More than 400 families attended Aldine ISD’s inaugural Family Health Fair on Saturday, March 26, at the M.B. Sonny Donaldson Child Nutrition Center.

Families took advantage of free health screenings, COVID vaccines, flu shots, live demonstrations, meetings with health experts, and activities. The first 300 families received swag bags filled with goodies and had the chance to win door prize drawings throughout the event. One of the biggest draws for young kids was taking a picture with Mirabel Madrigal from Disney’s Encanto. The district’s Child Nutrition Services Department also provided smoothie samples and consultations regarding heart disease and cancer prevention.

The Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Department coordinated the fair, seeking to attract as many community members as possible. Health experts that took part and educated the community at the event included MD Anderson, Texas Children’s, Hope Clinic, UHP Health, Molina HealthCare, DePelchin, Spring Branch Health Center, Mi Familia Dental, Harris County Public Health Services, and Legacy Community Health.

The Aldine ISD Health Fair was a free event for employees, students, their families, and community members to connect them to resources to live healthier lifestyles.

“It was wonderful to see so many families at the fair Saturday morning,” said Dr. Martha Escalante, Aldine ISD executive director of FACE. “Aldine ISD is very focused on our students’ and staff members’ well-being. The fair really helped us show what we are doing to help promote health in the district and community. We had so many families, vendors, and community partners who asked us if we would be doing this again next year. The answer is yes. We are already planning next year’s event. Again, we are grateful to everyone that helped coordinate and promote the fair. And we are thankful for our community and our families who took advantage of this opportunity to focus on health.”
