The MacArthur Generals soccer team is on a roll.
The Generals defeated Klein 2-0 on April 1 to advance to the Region II Tournament, held April 8-9 at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex in Austin.
The win over Klein was the third straight playoff victory for the Generals.
Under head coach Salvador Fernández, MacArthur will face Duncanville in the first semi-final game at 4 p.m. on Friday. The winner of that game will face the winner of the second semi-final game, which will pit The Woodlands against Mansfield Lake Ridge.
The Regional finals will be held on Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m. at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex, with the winner advancing to the Class 6A State Tournament.
In the win over Klein, Jay Hernández and Jair Robles scored the Generals’ goals, while goalkeeper Juan Ruiz recorded the shutout.
Fernández said he is proud of what the Generals have accomplished in the postseason. Fernández said that the team had come together at the right time after losing three games in District 14-6A.
“We are doing this for our school, community, and Aldine ISD,” Fernandez said. “We have a lot of young players, and we are just starting three seniors. The combination of youth and experience makes us a dangerous team. We’ve taken all the adversity we’ve dealt with and used it as fuel to become a better team.”
The Generals will carry a 16-4-5 record into their game against Duncanville.
Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Tickets will be sold at the gate (cash only). Only district passes will be accepted. A “clear bag policy” will be enforced at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.
