Aldine ISD to Launch College Prep Program at Hoffman Middle School in Fall 2022

Disponible en: Español

Aldine ISD will launch Hoffman College Prep, a college-prep program at Hoffman Middle School, beginning in August 2022, thereby dissolving YES Prep Hoffman. The district is scaling back its partnership with the YES Prep Charter School System, which started in 2013 to leverage the benefits of our district and the college-focused charter school. Those strengths included providing an enriching experience for students and families during their educational journey.

The partnership that forms YES Prep Hoffman will dissolve at the end of the current school year. The remaining partnership includes YES Prep Eisenhower, housed out of Eisenhower High School, which will continue operating in the 2022-2023 school year.

“The decision to launch Hoffman College Prep reflects our commitment to providing choices and opportunities for our students,” said Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney. “We are looking forward to developing a program intentionally built to propel our students forward and prepare them for a successful post-secondary experience.”

The district is committed to providing a rigorous and enriching educational experience for students to meet their post-secondary aspirations.

Hoffman College Prep will provide students with a unique small middle-school model through a student-based approach to learning. It will offer a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, increased student support and enrichment opportunities, and opportunities for social-emotional learning. Students will have the opportunity to enroll in Pre-AP courses, take Algebra 1, and explore college and career pathways. They will also engage with college access coordinators to create their own multi-year plans for success. Middle school students will leave prepared and inspired to excel in high school and far beyond.

Rising 6th-grade students are welcome to take advantage of Aldine ISD’s middle school options. Rising 7th- and 8th-grade students currently enrolled at YES Prep Hoffman are welcome to continue their college preparation at Hoffman College Prep, which will fall under our Choice School Programs, or will have the option to be rezoned to a neighboring district campus.

“We are incredibly thankful for our partnership with YES Prep,” said AISD Chief of Schools Dr. Katy Roede. “The decision to scale back the partnership was mutually agreed upon, and we are excited about the new college-prep program and its possibilities for future students.”

FAQs

The COVID-19 pandemic has created many unforeseen challenges for schools and districts across the country. Aldine ISD and YES Prep Public Schools are no exception to that. As both organizations work to prioritize resources to ensure they can best serve their students and families, we mutually decided that it would be best to unwind the partnership at Hoffman Middle School.

YES Prep Eisenhower will continue operating in the 2022-2023 school year.

Aldine ISD and Yes Prep’s partnership that forms YES Prep Hoffman will end in May.

Students will have the opportunity to enroll in Pre-AP courses, take Algebra 1, explore college and career pathways, and engage with college access coordinators to create their own multi-year plans for success.

Students who do not wish to attend the new program or any other Choice School are able to return to their zoned campus.

Schools, especially those that neighbor Hoffman – Garcia, Shotwell, Drew, and Houston – may receive students from those who opt to go to their appropriately zoned school.

As a result of this change, Hoffman Middle School, as well as other district middle schools, may receive additional students if they choose to attend their appropriately zoned school. Hoffman Middle will house a new middle school choice option that has a specific focus on preparation for success in college.
